Grid Splitter

Turn a photo into a profile-grid mosaic.

About this tool

A grid split cuts one photo into tiles that form a larger picture on your profile. Choose columns and rows, then download the tiles. Files are numbered in posting order, so post file 1 first and the picture will line up. Three columns is the most common profile layout.

How to Split a Photo Into a Profile Grid Mosaic

Ever scrolled past a profile where the grid looks like one giant photograph, with each square quietly forming part of a bigger picture? That effect isn't magic, and you don't need design software to pull it off. The Grid Splitter takes a single image and cuts it into evenly sized tiles, ready to be posted one after another.

What the tool actually does

You upload one photo, decide how many columns and rows you want, and the tool divides the image into that many pieces. You then download the tiles as separate files. Each file is numbered in posting order, which is the detail that saves you the most frustration: post file 1 first, then continue through the numbers, and the finished picture lines up on your profile the way it should.

Choosing your columns and rows

Three columns is the most common profile layout, so it's a sensible starting point. A single row of three tiles gives you a wide panoramic strip. Add a second row and you get a six-tile block, and a third row makes a full nine-tile square. More rows mean a taller, more dramatic mosaic, but also more posts to publish, so pick a size you're genuinely willing to finish.

Picking a photo that works

Not every image survives being sliced up. A few things help:

Where it comes in handy

Creators use grid splits to announce a launch, build a themed profile, or turn a favourite travel shot into a talking point. Small businesses use them to display a product in a way that fills the profile page. Photographers sometimes split a landscape just to show off a large frame in a format that rewards visitors for scrolling through it. It's also a fun way to refresh an older profile without reshooting anything.

Posting your tiles in the right order

Because the files are numbered, the workflow is simple: upload them in sequence, starting with file 1, and let the rest follow. If you rush or mix up the order, the mosaic will look scrambled, so it's worth taking a moment before each post. Posting everything in one sitting is the easiest way to keep the sequence straight.

Your photos stay on your device

Images are processed in your browser and never uploaded, so your original photo isn't sent to a server. That's reassuring if the picture is personal or unreleased, and it's the reason the tool works without any sign-up.

If you want a different kind of split, the Carousel Splitter slices a wide image into swipeable slides, and the Instagram Resizer helps you match exact post sizes. For a single photo that you want to turn into a bigger visual statement, though, the Grid Splitter is the quickest route.
