Motion Blur

Add directional or radial speed blur.

About this tool

Motion blur adds a sense of speed. Choose directional blur (set the angle) or radial blur (a zoom effect), then set the strength and how large the sharp centre area stays. The sharp area is a soft circle in the middle, not an automatic subject cut-out, so centre your subject for the best result.

Add a Sense of Speed to Any Photo with the Motion Blur Tool

A perfectly sharp photo of a bike, a car or a friend mid-jump can sometimes feel strangely still. Real movement is rarely crisp, and a touch of blur is often what tells the eye that something was moving fast. This free online motion blur tool lets you add that effect to your own pictures in a few clicks, right in your browser, with no editing software to install.

Two kinds of blur to choose from

The tool offers two styles. Directional blur smears the image along a straight line, and you decide the angle. Set it horizontally for a classic side-to-side pan, tilt it diagonally for a more dramatic feel, or run it vertically for a falling or rising look.

Radial blur works differently. Instead of streaking in one direction, it creates a zoom effect that seems to rush outward from the middle of the frame, a bit like a camera zooming during a long exposure. It suits tunnels, roads, dance shots and anything you want to feel as if it is coming straight at the viewer.

Strength and the sharp centre

Two more controls shape the result. Strength decides how heavy the blur is, from a subtle hint of movement to a full-on streak. The sharp centre setting controls how big the untouched area in the middle stays. That area is a soft circle, so the blur fades in gradually rather than starting at a hard edge.

One thing worth knowing: the tool does not detect or cut out your subject automatically. The sharp zone is simply a circle in the centre, so the best results come from photos where your subject already sits near the middle. If it does not, cropping the picture first can help.

How to use it

  1. Upload the photo you want to edit.
  2. Pick directional or radial blur.
  3. For directional blur, set the angle that matches the direction of movement in your scene.
  4. Adjust the strength until the effect looks believable rather than overdone.
  5. Change the size of the sharp centre so your subject stays clear.
  6. Download the finished image, or use the reset button to start over.

Where it comes in handy

Motion blur is popular for sports and street photos that came out a little flat, for car and bike shots, and for travel pictures where you want some energy. Creators also use it to make eye-catching thumbnails, posts and story backgrounds, since a dynamic image tends to stand out in a busy feed.

A few tips for natural-looking results

Go lighter than you think you need. Too much strength can make a photo look muddy rather than fast. Match the angle to the real direction of travel, and keep the sharp centre large enough that faces and key details stay readable. Try both blur styles on the same picture, since the difference can be surprising.

Your photos stay on your device

The image is processed in your browser and is never uploaded, so you can experiment with personal photos without worrying about where they end up.
